Anderson's two-point victory caps No. 1 Nebraska-Kearney's comeback win
WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Sophomore Zach Anderson posted a 6-4 win at 285 pounds to help top-ranked Nebraska-Kearney rally past 18th-ranked Ashland 20-19 on Sunday.
Ashland came out strong, recording a fall and major decision to grab a 10-0 lead. UNK responded with four consecutive wins to lead by four and regain the momentum.
Two of the victories were major decisions by Nick Ridgway (149) and Austin Carmichael (165).
Moving up a weight, senior Chase Nelson then posted a 10-8 sudden-victory decision against Jake Piatt at 174 pounds.
However, the Eagles grabbed the lead back thanks to a fall at 184 pounds and a 3-1 sudden victory by third-ranked Joe Brandt against seventh-ranked Matt Lenagh at 197 pounds.
Entering the final bout of the match, UNK trailed 19-17. Anderson had been at 197 pounds but moved up one weight class. Anderson defeated sophomore Kurt Schaefer by two points.
