Week 15 Movers

Few teams make big moves late in the year, but Oregon shot up four spots in the last two rankings. This time it was behind a narrow win in the Rose Bowl -- and 345 yards on the ground -- to reach the top three, but it couldn't get any higher as top-ranked Alabama and No. 2 Stanford continued to steal the show. Michigan fell as it tallied just 184 total yards in an overtime bowl win against Virginia Tech.

Rank School Points Record Comment
1

Alabama

Shop
6,117.44 12-1 Our top statistical team the majority of the season, Bama earned the national title the right way -- in dominating fashion on the field.
2

Stanford

Shop
5,374.94 11-2 Too bad Andrew Luck couldn't kick. The all-star QB did everything he could to send the Cardinal out a winner, but they came up short.
3

Oregon

Shop
4,966.11 12-2 Two rushes, 155 yards and two TDs. Don't blink next year or you might miss De'Anthony Thomas. Wisconsin wishes it didn't.
4

Wisconsin

Shop
4,867.54 11-3 QB Russell Wilson got his wish: reaching the Rose Bowl. The transfer just didn't get the right result though despite a stellar game.
5

Oklahoma St.

Shop
4,580.66 12-1 So how exactly did this team lose to Iowa State? It was a stellar season, but the question of 'What if?' is going to linger in Stillwater.
6

LSU

Shop
4,545.37 13-1 The Tiger defense is good enough to overcome a poor game by the offense. They might have won the title if the offense was even that good.
7

Oklahoma

Shop
4,292.98 10-3 Early results lifted OU this high, but think about where it could have finished if not for injuries on both sides of the ball.
8

Georgia

Shop
3,702.06 10-4 A pair of bookend losses to open and close the season make it feel worse than it is. Remember, they did win 10 in a row, too.
9

Michigan St.

Shop
3,573.70 11-3 Now that's a way to end a season. The Spartans' rally from down 16 points at the half against Georgia is worth watching again.
10

Southern California

Shop
3,507.42 10-2 The Trojans' season ended early because of sanctions, but it won't be for long. In fact, next year they might be playing pretty late.
11

South Carolina

Shop
3,439.51 11-2 Despite the loss of their starting QB and RB, the Gamecocks still won a school-record 11 games. Don't doubt the Ole Ball Coach.
12

Michigan

Shop
3,421.42 11-2 It wasn't pretty, but the Wolverines got past Virginia Tech and made Brady Hoke's first offseason in Ann Arbor a bit more content.
13

West Virginia

Shop
3,416.71 10-3 Finally. After so many games where the Mountaineers didn't put it all together, they finally torched the record book -- and Clemson.
14

Houston

Shop
3,229.36 13-1 NCAA all-time passing leader QB Case Keenum went out a winner as the Cougars raced past Penn State.
15

Virginia Tech

Shop
3,167.94 11-3 The Hokies dominated everything at the Sugar Bowl except the scoreboard. Still, the future's bright with QB Logan Thomas back in 2012.

The NCAA.com Power Rankings are based solely on team statistics. The formula includes current stats for both offense and defense, taking into account teams’ ability to produce positive results on both ends of the field. A strength-of-schedule factor is also included to reward teams that play more BCS opponents, and gives a disadvantage to teams that play a high number of non-BCS and FCS teams. The same SOS factor carries across the whole season for a team, meaning the weekly shift in ranking is accounted for completely by that week’s statistics.
