COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Harvard freshman Valentin Staller claimed third place at the 2008 North American Cup, held this week from Dec. 12-14.

Staller, competing in the sabre, lost in the semifinal round to Olympic silver medalist Tim Morehouse after defeating Morehouse earlier in the pool round.

The rookie from Old Field, N.Y., finished ninth at the Garret Penn State Open earlier this season on Nov. 2, and recently posted an 11-1 record at the duals at Vassar Dec. 6.
