Buckeyes Take First In NCAA Sectional Qualifier

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (11-4) rifle team produced the top aggregate score at the NCAA Collegiate Sectional Qualifier held at the Lt. Hugh W. Wyle Range in Converse Hall. The Buckeyes posted a two-gun aggregate score of 4,569 while Akron shot a 4,543 and Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, a 4.413. In smallbore rifle, Ohio State had a 2,253 with Akron second at 2,251 and Rose Hulman, 2,174. The Buckeyes shot a meet-high 2,316 in air rifle with Akron a 2,292 and a 2,239 for Rose Hulman.

 

Ohio State’s Jeffery Neidigh was the top aggregate shooter in the qualifier with a 1,153. Akron’s Jenna Compton finished second at 1,151 with OSU’s Steven Nozaki third at 1.142. Neidigh and Zachary Szabo of Akron shared meet-high honors in smallbore rifle with a 569. Nozaki finished third with a 566. In air rifle, Akron’s Compton was the top shooter with a 587. OSU’s Jasmine Margaria and Neidigh tied for second at 584.

 

The NCAA will announce advancing teams and individuals, Feb. 24. The NCAA championship will be held at the Texas Christian University Rifle Range in Fort Worth, Texas. Smallbore competition will be held March 13 and air rifle, March 14.

 

The Buckeye season continues Feb. 28 at Purdue University with the Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference Championships.
