Gamecocks Lead Rifle Championship

FORT WORTH, Texas - The first day of the 2009 NCAA Rifle Championships came to an end with Jacksonville State on top with a final smallbore score of 2312. Today's top performance goes to Brian Carstensen of Jacksonville State who fired a 587. After four flights of action, Carstensen sat atop the leader board. Kentucky's Ashley Jackson found herself in second with a score of 584. Michael Dickson of Jacksonville State and Mattie Brogdon from host school TCU both tallied 581 points. Rounding out the top-five for the four flights was Nevada's Andrew Hickey with a score of 580. In the smallbore finals, the top eight shooters took aim with Carstensen coming out on top with a score of 95.2, making his aggregate score for the day 682.2. Jackson finished second in the final round, firing a 98.1. She ended the day with an aggregate score of 682.1. Brogdon, freshman from finished the day in third scoring 679.1 on the aggregate. The shooters will return to action tomorrow with the air rifle competition. The first flight is slated for 9 a.m. for Saturday's air rifle competition in the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Adult general admission tickets are $5 with youth (ages 3-17) $3. Tickets for TCU or other participating university students are $3. |
