Hamilton College women's crew won the varsity four and novice eight events at the Augusta Invitational Regatta on Langley Pond in South Carolina on March 17. Hamilton's nationally ranked No. 15 varsity eight finished second with a time of 7:45.3 on the 2,000-meter course. Teams were rowing into a 10 to 20 mile-per-hour quartering headwind. Hamilton was just .9 seconds behind the winners from the College of William & Mary. Hamilton's varsity eight "B" boat was fifth in 8:51.7. The varsity four won its heat with a time of 8:28.7 and then outclassed five boats in the final with a winning time of 8:09.4. The novice eight edged Davidson College by .5 seconds with a time of 8:44.1. Hamilton's novice four took third place in its flight with a time of 9:32.0. The Hamilton men and women combined to win the college overall points title. Hamilton topped the 11-crew field with 100 points, which edged William & Mary with 98 points. Coxswain for the varsity eight "A" boat and the varsity four was Britt Freitag '08. Catrin Jones '08 was stroke and Laura Radlinski '10 was in the bow seat for the eights. The rest of the boat (seats seven through two in descending order) included: Lizzie Collins '10, Kate Pallin '07, Bridget Moore '08, Hannah Mauck '10, Jane Fieldhouse '10 and Kendall Scott '10. The lineups for the varsity eight "B" and the novice eight were identical as all athletes were first-year collegiate rowers. Coxswain was Ana Maria Diaz '10, who filled the same role on the novice four. Sara Venjohn '10 was stroke and Maureen Davis '10 was in the bow for the eights. The remainder of the boat (seats seven through two in descending order) included: Rosie Haroutunian '10, Callie Krumholz '10, Jenn Anderson '10, Helen Quigley '10, Ricki Feldman '10 and Lily Ericsson '10. Jones was stroke for the varsity four and Collins was in the bow. Moore was three-seat and Pallin was two-seat. Scott was stroke for the novice eight and Davis was in the bow. Radlinski was three-seat and Krumholz was two-seat. Hamilton returns north and competes against Colgate University in a scrimmage on the Erie Canal in Rome on Saturday, March 31. -Courtesy Hamilton |
