Aug. 24, 2009
NCAA Release INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA Divisions I, II, and III Women’s Rowing Committees have announced that Washington State University will host the 2010 NCAA Divisions I, II and III Women’s Rowing Championships at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center in Gold River, Calif., May 28-30. This will mark the sixth time the event will be held at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center, which is widely-regarded as one of the top facilities of its kind in the world. The inaugural NCAA Women’s Rowing Championship was held there in 1997, as well as serving as the site for the championship in 1999, 2004, 2005 and 2008. “The committee is excited about going back to the Sacramento State Aquatic Center,” said Tom Bold, chair of the NCAA Division I Women’s Rowing Committee and associate director of athletics at Brown University. “It is without a doubt one of the top venues anywhere and will provide our student-athletes with a tremendous experience. We know the staffs at Washington State and the aquatic center will make sure this is a first-class event and a true championship experience for everyone involved.” Washington State has a history of hosting NCAA championships, as this is the 18th championship event hosted by the Cougars in the last half century, and the first in rowing. “Washington State University has a great working relationship with the NCAA having hosted a number of NCAA championship events in the past and we are excited to host the 2010 NCAA Women’s Rowing Championships,” said Anne McCoy, senior woman administrator at Washington State University. “The Sacramento State Aquatic Center is a wonderful venue for both competitors and fans, and providing everyone with a championship-caliber event is our top priority.” |
