Mount Olive No. 1 In Preseason Poll

Courtesy of MIAA TUCSON, Ariz. - The MIAA has two teams ranked in the top 10 of the 2009 Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Preseason Coaches Poll. Central Missouri, the MIAA Tournament champion which advanced to the Division II national bracket in 2008, was ranked third, behind only defending national champion Mount Olive (N.C.) and perennial power Tampa (Fla.). The Mules were 47-17 under first-year head coach Tom Myers. The Emporia State Hornets were ranked eighth after finishing 2008 with a 50-10 record, winning the MIAA regular season title for the second time in three years and playingin the MIAA Tournament championship game for the fifth time in six years. This season the MIAA will be playing in the South Central Region for the first time, which will also include the Lone Star and Heartland conferences. A total of five teams from the South Central Region are in the top 30 of the preseason poll. |
