Courtesy of LSU Athletics BATON ROUGE - LSU’s 2009 NCAA championship baseball team will travel to Washington, D.C. on Wednesday for a tour of the nation’s capital. The squad will depart Baton Rouge early Wednesday and arrive in Washington by mid-morning. The Tigers will spend the day visiting historic landmarks and monuments before returning to Baton Rouge Wednesday night. More details about the Tigers’ D.C. tour, including meetings with several dignitaries, are scheduled to be announced soon. The tour will mark the second trip to Washington by an LSU baseball team. The 1991 squad met with former President George H.W. Bush a few weeks after capturing LSU’s first College World Series title. The trip to Washington will also be the fifth this decade by an LSU athletics team. The national championship football teams journeyed to the nation’s capital after the 2003 and 2007 seasons, and LSU track and field teams toured Washington in 2002 and 2008 after winning NCAA titles. |
