The Stanford men's gymnastics team was recently named the top collegiate squad in the GymInfo Coaches' Preseason Poll. The Cardinal received ten first-place votes, eight more than Oklahoma, who was picked second. Third-ranked Ohio State and seventh-ranked California also each earned one first-place vote.

Stanford, the top-ranked program for the majority of last season barely missed winning the team title at last year's NCAA Championships, falling to No. 2 Oklahoma by forty-five hundredths of a point in the final rotation.

The Cardinal returns two of its six All-MPSF gymnasts from last year for the 2008-09 season, redshirt seniors Jason Shen and Sho Nakamori, along with five other upperclassmen and seven sophomores. The team also introduces four high-school standouts in John Martin, Gabriel Alvarado, Cameron Foreman, Jordan Nolff to the club this year.
