Sophomore Brian Douglass scored eight goals and added an assist and newcomer Matt Gibson tallied three goals and five assists as the Yale men's lacrosse team defeated the Iroquois Nationals 21-11 in an exhibition contest at Reese Stadium tonight.

 

Eight different players scored goals for Yale, while Andrew Cordia led the Iroquois with three scores.

 

The Bulldogs scored 10 of the game's first 11 goals while outshooting the visitors 22-4.

 

Yale hit the net four times in the first 10 minutes including three scores by Douglass, who had four of his eight tallies in the first quarter (each quarter was 25 minutes). Junior Brendan Gibson scored twice in the quarter and had an assist before finishing with three goals and two assists.

 

The home team took a 14-4 lead into halftime, having outshot Iroquois 36-14. The nationals scored three of the four goals coming out of the break and pulled to within 15-7. Yale answered with a 4-0 run over the next 9:38 to put the game away.

 

Freshman Andy Brown started in goal for the Blue and played the first half, making six saves while allowing four goals. Sophomore Jonathan Falcone took over the second half and stopped 12 of 19 shots on target.

 

The Bulldogs, who had a well attended alumni game this morning, are home next Saturday to host the Christian Prince Memorial Tournament with Sacred Heart, Quinnipiac and Lafayette.
