Emory Finishes Third At D-III Championship

Courtesy of Emory Athletics Claremont, Calif. – The Emory men's tennis team took home third place at the NCAA Division III Championships this afternoon with a 5-3 win over Washington University in the consolation match. The win closed out the Eagles' season at 21-4. Emory trailed, 2-1, after doubles action, but rallied to claim a 4-2 edge following singles wins by Oliver Lopp (#5), Mark Boren (#3) and Chris Goodwin (#2). After the Bears cut the Eagles' advantage to 4-3 following the outcome of the No. 1 singles contest, junior Chris Redmond sealed the victory with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 verdict over Chris Hoeland at No. 6. Emory will send Michael Goodwin, Chris Goodwin and Mark Boren into the singles portion of the Championship which starts on Friday while the Goodwins will compete in the doubles competition.
