
Florida earned its third consecutive national title by edging Arkansas. Omar Craddoc won the triple jump, Jeff Demps took the 60 meters and Tony McQuay topped the 400 field to lead the Gators.

Florida’s men got its payback for its title and Oregon’s women gave some notice that is it not all field and no track for its win as both schools won their third consecutive team crowns.

Florida sat in 14th place after the first day of competition. Entering Saturday the Gators knew they had to rally if they wanted to extend their national title reign. Florida did just that, roaring back to nip Arkansas.

When cumulative points in seven events trumps an outstanding individual effort in any one event, a guy like Duke’s Curtis Beach is in a weird place – even if he runs the fastest race in the world.
