Washington (St. Louis) Tops Preseason Top 25

Courtesy of Hardin-Simmons Athletics ATLANTA - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball has already been picked to win the American Southwest Conference West Division and the positive preseason accolades continue to roll in as the Cowgirls are No. 24 in the preseason USA Today/ESPN Divison III Women's Coaches Poll that was released on Tuesday. The ASC has proven to be a quality conference on the top end and that is represented in the poll as well as Howard Payne (15) and Texas-Dallas (21) were also in the preseason poll. HSU returns six lettermen and two starters from last year's 22-6 team that advanced to the ASC Tournament final. Leading the way for the Cowgirls is all-region selection Lindsey Newcombe who set and ASC record with 13.8 rebounds per game last season and also averaged 17.3 points. The Cowgirls also has added three transfers to the team as well as nine freshmen. One of the transfers is Becky Taylor from UT-Tyler. Taylor averaged 17.5 points and 13.3 rebounds per game last season and is the top returning scorer in the ASC. |
