DURHAM, N.C. - The No. 1-ranked Maryland field hockey team shut out No. 14 Duke, 3-0, in Durham Saturday afternoon. Maryland moved to 14-0 on the year and 4-0 in ACC competition, while Duke fell to 6-6 and 0-4 in the ACC. Freshman Megan Frazer scored twice to put the Terps on top.

"The coaching staff is very pleased with the outcome. From a post-season point of view, it gives us an opportunity to have a bye in the ACC tournament, which is exciting," head coach Missy Meharg said. After today's win, the Terps have locked up one of the top-two spots in the ACC.

The first half was a battle, as neither team scored until Frazer's first goal in the last minute of the half. Frazer dribbled up the right side to knock her shot in the lower half of the cage. After being ahead 1-0 at the break, Frazer picked up where she left off and scored again just six minutes into the half with a goal that looked almost like a repeat of her first goal.

"The staff is most impressed with the adjustments our team makes at halftime," Meharg said.

Junior Katie O'Donnell scored just four minutes later to finalize the score at 3-0 off of a rebounded shot taken by senior Nicole Muracco and saved by Duke goalkeeper Samantha Nelson. Senior goalkeeper Alicia Grater had two saves on the day.

The Terrapins shut down Duke's Amie Survilla, the nation's leading scorer, as she had just five shots on the day and she was the only Blue Devil to record a shot. The Terps took 17 shots. Maryland also maintained its penalty corner advantage, 10-4, and 19 different Terrapins saw action in today's game.

Maryland will head home to host No. 16 Old Dominion next Friday at 4 p.m. before heading to Delaware to take on the No. 17 Blue Hens next Sunday at 1 p.m.
