Nova Southeastern Claims 2009 D-II Women's Golf Crown

Nova Southeastern University claimed the 2009 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf National Championship by firing a 72-hole score of 1,230 after four rounds of competition at the Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio. The Sharks recorded a 307 on Saturday, May 16 during the final round and won by 15 strokes over Grand Valley State University (310, 309, 317, 309 – 1,245).

Nova Southeastern played consistent golf throughout the tournament, firing a 314 in the first round, a 302 in the second and a 307 in both the third and fourth rounds. Their 302 in the second round was a tournament low.

Individually, University of Indianapolis junior Lyndsay McBride fired a 77 on the final day to claim the 2009 National Championship by two strokes over Pfeiffer University senior Charlene Reid, who posted a 73 during the fourth round, and Nova Southeastern sophomore Sandra Changkija, who carded a 75 on Saturday.

McBride shot a 74 in the opening round, a 75 in the second, an even-par score of 72 in the third and then the 77 in the fourth for a total of 298.

Reid meanwhile posted a two-under par score of 70 in the first round, which was followed by an 80 in the second. In the third, she shot a 77 before closing with a 73 to give her a four-round score of 300.

Changkija opened with a 76 and then followed with a 74 in the second round before posting a 75 in the final two rounds of competition for her 300.

California University of Pennsylvania senior Simone DeSouza (75, 77, 76, 75 – 303) finished fourth, Indianapolis senior Kristi Piepenbrink (77, 74, 76, 77 – 304) took fifth and Florida Tech University senior Daniela Iacobelli (74, 80, 73, 78 – 305), the 2007 NCAA Division II National Champion, placed sixth.
