INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Committee has selected Towson, Md., as the site for the 2010 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship, which will take place May 28 and 30.  Hosted by Towson University, the 2010 women’s lacrosse championship will be played at Johnny Unitas® Stadium.

“The Division I women’s lacrosse committee is thrilled to award the 2010 championship to Towson University,” said Ryan Bamford, the chair of the NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Committee and senior associate  athletics director at Yale University.  “This event has set attendance records the last four years and we feel strongly that our growth will continue at Towson in 2010.”

The 2010 women’s lacrosse championship marks the third consecutive time Towson will serve as the host, and the twelfth time the championship will take place in the state of Maryland. (1986, 1987, 1993, 1994 – University of Maryland, College Park; 1998 – University of Maryland, Baltimore County; 1999, 2001 - Johns Hopkins University; 2002 – Loyola College (Maryland); 2005 – U.S. Naval Academy).

“Towson University was absolutely thrilled with the success of the 2009 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship,” said Nance Reed, women’s lacrosse tournament director and senior associate athletics director at Towson University.  “In many regards we had the perfect situation; a great venue, four great teams, including the defending national champion, and wonderful weather. Breaking all of the attendance records was an added bonus for the event.”
