Augustana Rolls Into Second Round With 2-1 Win Over Albion
Nov. 14, 2009
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Taylor Moesle's (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) goal on an assist from Katie Oakes (Wheaton North HS, Wheaton, Ill.) 61:26 into the match put Augustana on top of Albion by a 2-1 score and the Vikings were able to maintain that lead and advance to the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament. On Sunday, Augustana will face the winner tonight's second game between St. Thomas and Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Game time for that match is 6:00 p.m. Sunday, November 15. Lauren Polock (Wheaton North HS, Wheaton, Ill.) got the fifth-ranked Vikings on the board just 2:17 into the match with a 30-yard blast. The goal was Polock's fourth of the season. The score remained 1-0 until halftime with Augustana outshooting the visitors 5-0 in the opening period. Albion got off its first shot of the match just 23 seconds into the second half and made the most of it. Lauren Beck lofted a beautiful shot just past the reach of leaping Augustana goalkeeper Kayla Radloff (West Chicago HS, West Chicago, Ill.) to even the score at 1-1. It stayed that way until Oakes and Moesle teamed up to regain the lead for Augustana. The Vikings peppered Briton keeper Caitlin Bowman with 15 shots in the second half, but only Moesle's found the net. Bowman was credited with four saves in the match, while Radloff, who improves to 18-1-1 on the season, faced six Albion shots and recorded five saves. With the win, Augustana improves to 19-1-1 on the year and moves on to second round action on Sunday. Albion finishes its season with a record of 9-5-6. |
