THE OPENING WHISTLE
The Indiana women's soccer team hits the road for a weekend on the East Coast as it takes on CAA squad George Mason and MAAC power Loyola in a pair of non-conference contests. IU is coming off a 1-1-0 finish at the Hoosier Classic, as it blasted Vermont 5-0 but fell victim to a strong performance by Cal Poly on Sunday, 3-1. Kelly Lawrence had a goal in each contest for the Hoosiers and five different Indiana players scored in Friday's victory. The Patriots enter the weekend 2-3-0 after taking a pair of 1-0 victories at the Mason Tournament, while Loyola is coming off a tie against San Diego State last weekend and is 0-3-1 on the year.

THE COACHES
Mick Lyon is in his seventh season at the helm of the IU women's soccer program, where he has a record of 58-51-15. His 2007 campaign was his finest as a Hoosier head coach, as he led IU to its first NCAA Tournament in his tenure, and saw the Hoosiers advance to the third round of the Tournament for the first time in school history. Lyon's teams have been especially dominant at home, as the Hoosiers are 35-13-5 on Yeagley Field, including a 16-3-2 mark in the last three seasons. Lyon has a career record of 165-116-33 (.578) in his 16th year as a college coach.

Diane Drake is in her fifth season as the head coach for GMU and her 10th season overall as a head coach. She has a record of 34-37-6 for the Patriots and is 79-81-12 in her career. Katherine Remy Vettori is in her first season at the helm of the Greyhounds. The former Duke All-American has six years of experience as a collegiate assistant coach.

FIVE ALIVE
With Friday's 5-0 victory over Vermont, the Hoosiers cleared several benchmarks on the offensive side of the ball.

The five goals scored were the most by an IU squad since posting a 5-1 victory over Florida International on Sept. 10, 2004, and marked just the 13th time in school history (and just the fourth time since 1998) that Indiana has scored five or more goals. The five-goal margin of victory was the most lopsided win by a Hoosier team since Joe Kelley's 1998 squad drummed IUPUI 9-0 on Sept. 6, 1998. Indiana's four second-half goals were the most since last year's 4-0 victory over Evansville on Sept. 23.

The Hoosiers also unleashed 30 shots on the Catamounts, putting 15 of those on goal. The 30 shots were the most since Indiana attempted 35 against Jacksonville on Sept. 2 of last season, but the 15 shots on goal were the most since Illinois' Leisha Alcia made 13 saves and the Fighting Illini added a team save in a 1-1 tie in Champaign on Oct. 17, 2004.

Five different IU players scored in the game, with Darby Hannon, Liz Holby, Chloe McKay, Kerri Krawczak and Kelly Lawrence scoring in the game. It marked the first time five different players have scored in a game since Kris Fosdick (three goals), Kelly Kram (two), Tracy Grose (two), Abby Ryan (one) and Tory Dolan (one) all scored in the aforementioned IUPUI match.

TWO EARN ALL-CLASSIC NODS
In finishing third at the Hoosier Classic (Cal Poly took second on a head-to-head tiebreaker) Indiana landed two players on the All-Classic team. Defenders Kelly Lawrence and Kerri Krawczak were lauded for their play in the Classic, as Lawrence scored two goals and Krawczak one in addition to their strong play on the back line for the Hoosiers.

ON THE BOARD
A trio of Hoosiers got their names on the scoresheet for the first time in IU's victory over Vermont on Friday. Making her Hoosier debut, redshirt freshman Darby Hannon scored what turned out to be the eventual game winner for the Hoosiers when she blasted home a rebound of a Christie Kotynski shot to put the Hoosiers up 1-0 in the 38th minute of the contest.

Then, in the second half, freshman Carly Samp sent a cross deep into the box, where Liz Holby tapped it home in the 48th minute for the Barrington, Ill., native's first collegiate point. Samp followed that with a square ball to Chloe McKay at the top of the 18 in the 66th minute, and McKay converted it for her first goal of the season to give Samp a multi-assist game.

Kerri Krawczak was the third freshman to get on the score sheet for the first time. The freshman, who was a high school All-American in 2007, headed home a McKay corner in the 75th minute for her first career tally.

Additionally, Kaylin Clow and Lindsay Campbell made their Hoosier debuts in the contest. Clow played 11 minutes and tallied a shot, while Campbell made her first career start in net for IU. The Dallas native posted a shutout victory and made one save in the win.

PK FEVER
After drawing just two penalty kicks over the previous six seasons, Indiana's penalty against Cal Poly was the second in just four games for the Hoosiers. Kelly Lawrence has taken both the PK attempts for the Hoosiers and is 2-for-2 on conversions, going to the lower right corner on both attempts.

When Lawrence knocked home the PK for the game winner against Tennessee, it marked the first converted PK for the Hoosiers since Kara Bryan scored in the 21st minute against Penn State on Sept. 30, 2001. Indiana had been awarded two penalties since Bryan's goal, but was unable to convert on either of them. The previous PK awarded to the Hoosiers was against Northwestern in 2006, but Lawrence, then a freshman, missed just wide.

FRESH FACES
Despite returning eight starters and 14 letterwinners from the 2007 squad, Indiana still has a number of newcomers playing key roles on the pitch in 2008. In addition to two-goal scorer Devon Beach, three other freshmen have found their way into the starting lineup in every regular-season contest in 2008. Kerri Krawczak (defender), Kirsta Kellin (midfielder) and Carly Samp (forward) have all started every game for IU.

Additionally, five others among the class of 10 true freshmen have seen action this season. Lindsay Campbell (goalkeeper), Kaylin Clow (midfielder), Gina Daniele (midfielder), Lex Dickison (goalkeeper) and Michelle Lind (defender) all have played in at least one contest for IU. Additionally, redshirt freshman and Bloomington native Darby Hannon played in her first two games at the Hoosier Classic last weekend.
