The NCAA announced the list of rising sophomores, juniors and seniors who attended the College Basketball Academies East Regional in 2019. These events were developed in response to recommendations from the Commission on College Basketball and are intended to provide supplemental recruiting opportunities while also preparing prospects for what to expect as college student-athletes. Two four-day sessions were held from July 22-25 and July 25-28, 2019 at four regions throughout the country.
Pete Gillen, former head coach at Virginia, Providence and Xavier.
Mitch Buonaguro, former head coach at Siena and Fairfield.
The inaugural East Regional commissioner for the first year of the NCAA College Basketball Academy has been selected.
Al Skinner, former Kennesaw State, Boston College and Rhode Island head coach will serve as the East regional commissioner in Storrs, Connecticut.
“The commissioners were selected for their diverse experiences and ability to help prepare these prospects for what they will experience as student-athletes on Division I campuses. We are very fortunate to have four well-respected head coaches who are passionate about the development of young players,” said Dan Gavitt, NCAA senior vice president of basketball.
The commissioners will serve as directors for their respective locations, and they will play integral roles in the development of drills, game rules and life-skills programming for participants. They also will monitor games, make roster changes and mentor academy coaches at each site.
Sydney Johnson, former head coach at Fairfield and Princeton.
Patrick Sandle, former assistant coach at Loyola Marymount.
