The FCS quarterfinals begin today

The quarterfinal round of the 2022 FCS championship begin Friday with three matchups across the board, along with one more scheduled for Saturday. The first of today's games begins at 7 p.m. ET.

Here is Friday's schedule (all times ET):

Saturday's game against No. 1 South Dakota State and No. 8 Holy Cross is scheduled for 12 p.m.

No. 8 Holy Cross defeats New Hampshire 35-19

Holy Cross dominated on the ground with 295 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. Running back Peter Oliver and quarterback Matthew Sluka each ran for two scores. With the win, Holy Cross is 12-0 for the first time in program history.

Late TD, leaping interception seal comeback win for UIW in FCS playoffs

Trailing by four points with 02:32 to play, UIW quarterback Lindsey Scott drove the Cardinals down field in four plays to throw his fifth touchdown of the game to give UIW the lead. On Furman's answering drive, Elliott Davison iced the game with an interception.

No. 6 Samford beats Southeastern Louisiana 48-42 in overtime

Samford and Southeastern Louisiana played in the first overtime game of the 2022 FCS playoffs. On Southeastern Louisiana's opening possession, quarterback Cephus Johnson fumbled the ball out of the end zone for a touchback. Samford answered with a game-winning touchdown from backup quarterback Quincy Crittendon, who replaced SoCon player of the year Michael Hiers.

No. 4 Montana State wins rematch against Weber State 33-25

'And the Griddy too!' Montana State executes trick play to perfection

Montana State quarterback Sean Chambers accounted for three touchdowns as the Bobcats took down Weber State in a Big Sky rematch. The Bobcats ran for 388 yards in the win, led by quarterback Tommy Mellott's 158 yards.

North Dakota State dominated Montana rushing for 453 yards and six touchdowns. In the loss, Montana quarterback Lucas Johnson got hurt again.

Holy Cross handles New Hampshire

Watch all 3 of Matthew Sluka's touchdowns against New Hampshire

After a slow first half, Holy Cross exploded for 28 second-half points to defeat New Hampshire 35-19.

The Crusaders dominated on the ground with 295 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. Running back Peter Oliver and quarterback Matthew Sluka each ran for two scores.

Defensively, Holy Cross shut down New Hampshire's offense, limiting Wildcat running back Dylan Laube to just 52 yards rushing and 18 yards receiving after accounted for over 400 all-purpose yards last week. With the win, Holy Cross is 12-0 for the first time in program history. The Crusaders advance out of the second round of the playoffs for the first time ever and will play the winner of Delaware/No. 1 South Dakota State.

Holy Cross-New Hampshire halftime update

The first game of the second round of the 2022 FCS playoffs has reached halftime. Holy Cross leads New Hampshire 7-5 after two quarters.

It's been a defensive struggle with a combined 43 yards passing from both teams. Holy Cross' defense has allowed only 50 total yards in the first half and has an interception. New Hampshire's defense has only allowed four completions for 24 yards in the first half.

Special teams has also been an issue in the first half. Both teams have blocked a punt so far. Holy Cross has gone 0-3 on field goal attempts.

Gardner-Webb stuns Eastern Kentucky

Gardner-Webb won its first-ever FCS playoff game, defeating Eastern Kentucky 52-41. The Runnin' Bulldogs were true to their nickname rushing for six touchdowns and over 400 yards. Narii Gaither was dominant, rushing for 245 yards and two touchdowns. Gardner-Webb's rushing attack came up big in the third quarter, where the offense went on a 21-0 run to boost a four-point lead to 24 points. Click or tap here for complete stats from the game.

In the loss, Eastern Kentucky quarterback Parker McKinney threw for 454 yards and five touchdowns. With the win, Gardner-Webb advances to play No. 5 William & Mary in the second round.

Weber State holds off North Dakota

Weber State held off North Dakota 38-31 on a snowy afternoon. The Wildcats jumped out to a 24-0 lead with 4:50 to play in the second half. By halftime, Weber State led 31-7. However, the Fighting Hawks showed their fight in the second half, ultimately losing by just seven points.

Weber State's run game led the way on offense, as the Wildcats had two 100-yard rushers in Josh Allen and Damon Bankston, with the team gaining 330 rushing yards and rushing for four touchdowns. Click or tap here for complete stats from the game.

With the win, Weber State advances to play No. 4 Montana State.

New Hampshire outlasts Fordham in a shootout

New Hampshire and Fordham combined for 94 points in a shootout first-round game. After all of the points, the Wildcats defeated the Rams 52-42.  New Hampshire running back Dylan Laube had himself a day, finishing with 410 all-purpose yards, running for 157 yards. In the loss, Fordham quarterback Tim DeMorat finished with three touchdowns, finishing the season one behind the FCS single-season record. With the win, New Hampshire advances to play No. 8 Holy Cross.

Richmond shuts out Davidson 41-0

Richmond

Richmond shut out Davidson 41-0 in a first round matchup in the 2022 FCS Championship. Richmond's defense dominated the nation's leading rush offense, limiting Davidson to 3.1 yards per carry. The Wildcats could never get anything going, with their drives progressing as follows: four punts, one turnover on downs, one interception, two punts and one turnover on downs. Richmond's defense earned its first shutout in five seasons.

On offense, Richmond quarterback Reece Udinski finished 28-31 passing for 246 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Milan Howard ran for 73 yards and two touchdowns. Click or tap here for complete stats from the game.

Richmond advances to play No. 2 Sacramento State in the second round of the playoffs next week.

Furman handles Elon with a strong defensive showing

'Boom!' Furman blows up Elon's fake field goal attempt

Furman defeated Elon 31-6 behind a strong defensive effort. The Paladin defense limited Elon to just 77 rushing yards and held quarterback Matthew McKay to just a 50 percent completion percentage. Furman did not allow a touchdown and limited Elon to 5-17 on third downs.

Offensively, Furman dominated on the ground, finishing with 251 yards, 160 of which came in the second half. Quarterback Tyler Huff finished the game with 233 total yards and two total touchdowns. Click or tap here for complete stats from the game.

With the loss, Elon is still in search of is first-ever FCS playoff win. Meanwhile, Furman advances to play No. 7 UIW in the second round of the playoffs next week.
