Methodist win 13th DIII men's golf championship in program history

Methodist's huge lead going into the final round was more than enough, as the program won its 13 team title on Friday by finishing +20 — eight ahead of runner-up Hampden-Sydney College. Methodist led by 12 to start the last round.

The Monarchs' Andre Chi also claimed the individual crown, finishing 4-under and two ahead of Webster's Will Hocker to complete the Methodist sweep.

The title is Methodist's 13th and first since 2018.

Final day of DIII men's golf championship now underway

The fourth and final round of the DIII men's golf championship is now underway. 

Methodist University sits atop the team leaderboard with a 12-stroke lead (+13), ahead of Hampden-Sydney College and Huntingdon College (+25). Methodist's Andre Chi leads the individual competition sitting at -2, currently just one stroke ahead of Wittenburg's JF Aber (-1). 

Methodist University tees off for the team championship at 9:20 a.m. ET, while Andre Chi is set to tee off at 10 a.m. ET.

Methodist University on the precipice of 13th championship

Methodist University and senior Andre Chi are potentially only 18 holes away from earning the 2022 NCAA DIII men's golf team and individual titles after Thursday's third round in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. If Methodist can finish the job, it'll win its 13th team DIII national championship and its first since 2018. Methodist was the national runner-up in 2021. As a team, Methodist shot a 4-over 292 — tied for the second-best round of the day, behind only Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' even-par 288 — to take an 12-stroke lead into Friday, ahead of Hampden-Sydney College and Huntingdon College (+25). Claremont-Mudd-Scripps climbed one spot to fourth place at 26-over after its best round of the week by seven strokes.

The team and individual champions will be decided after the final round on Friday.

Methodist's Chi shot a 2-under 70 for the second day in a row to improve his standing by three places on the leaderboard in Thursday, climbing from fourth to first at 2-under for the week. Wittenberg University's JF Aber recorded a 3-under 69 to climb six spots from eighth to second as he sits just one stroke back of Chi at 1-under.

Three players are tied for third at even par.

DIII men's golf third round now underway

Just 18 teams and six additional individuals remain in the 2022 NCAA DIII Men's Golf Championships after the cut on Wednesday. The cut was made at 45-over for teams and 7-over for individuals. The third round is now underway on Thursday with the final tee times are scheduled for 10:15 a.m. ET at Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.

Methodist University, which is scheduled to tee off at 9:39 a.m. ET, enters Thursday with the lead at 9-over, six strokes ahead of Carnegie Mellon. Methodist's Henry Angier (-2) holds the individual lead.

Team and individual champions will be crowned Friday with the completion of 72 holes.

Day 2: Field cut to 18 teams

After two days of competition, the DIII men's golf championship field has been cut from 43 teams to 18.

Methodist University finds itself on top of the leaderboard after shooting 289 (+5 on Wednesday). The Monarchs surged ahead of yesterday's leader Carnegie Mellon, who shot 299 (+15) today.

Oglethorpe earned the 18th and final spot above Wednesday's cut, shooting 307 (+30). Overall, the Stormy Petrels have shot 617 (+45) in the tournament.

That's just enough to outpace Willamette and Greensboro, who finished tied for 19th place after shooting 618 (+46) overall.

It's probably not surprising to also find a Monarch atop the individual leaderboard. Methodist's Henry Angier boasts the best performance of the tournament through two days of competition.

Angier shot 69 (-2) on Wednesday, bringing his overall performance to 141 (-2).

Hampden-Sydney's Nick Rubino and Huntingdon's Grant Gronka are just behind him, both shooting 142 (-1) overall.

DIII men's golf championship field to be cut after Wednesday

After the conclusion of the second day of the 2022 NCAA DIII Men's Golf Championships at Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla., the field will be cut to 18 teams and the top six individuals not on one of those teams, after the completion of 36 holes. The second round is underway, with the final tee times of the day scheduled for 1:15 p.m. ET.

Through 18 holes, Carnegie Mellon is atop both the team and individual leaderboards. Carnegie Mellon has a team score of 1-under, which is four strokes ahead of second-place Huntingdon College (+3).

After Tuesday, Aurora University and St. John's (MD) were tied for 18th at 20-over.

In the individual leaderboard, Carnegie Mellon's William Knauth was the clubhouse leader after Tuesday at 3-under. Team and individual champions will be crowned Friday with the completion of 72 holes.

Carnegie Mellon leads after opening round

Carnegie Mellon sits atop the 2022 Division II men's golf championship after the first day of competition.

The Tartans finished the round shooting 287 (-1). The Huntingdon Hawks are right on their tail, shooting 287 (+3) on Tuesday.

The rest of the top five consist of Methodist, which shot 292 (+4), Emory and Hampden-Sydney — teams that are tied for fourth place after shooting 236 (+8).

A Tartan sits atop the individual leaderboard as well. William Knauth shot 69 (-3), slightly besting Huntindon's Grant Gronka, who shot 62 (-2).

Wittenberg's JF Aber and Methodist's Cooper Hrabak shot 70 (-2), which puts them in a three-way tie for second place with Gronka.

DIII Men's Golf Championships start today

Today marks the kickoff of the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships at Mission Inn Resort and Club, in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., hosted by Oglethorpe and Greater Orlando Sports Commission. There will be four days of competition, totaling 72 holes and concluding Friday, May 13, with the cut taking place after 36 holes on Wednesday. Only the top 18 teams and the top six individuals who aren't on a qualifying team will make the cut.

2022 DIII men's golf selections revealed

The NCAA Division III Men's Golf Committee has announced the teams and individuals selected to participate in the 2022 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships.

The championships, which will be held May 10-13 at Mission Inn Resort and Club, in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida and will be hosted by Oglethorpe and Greater Orlando Sports Commission. The team and individual champions will be determined after 72 holes of play or the conclusion of the last fully completed round. Forty-three teams and six individuals not on one of those teams will be selected to participate in the championships. After 36 holes of competition, the field will be cut to the top 18 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams.
