Toledo dedicates seat for POWs, MIAs
School held ceremony at Glass Bowl before win vs. Navy
TOLEDO, Ohio -- Toledo has come up with a special way to honor military members who were prisoners of war and those who were declared missing in action.
The school in northwest Ohio is dedicating a permanently unoccupied seat at its football stadium to POWs and MIAs.
A ceremony marked the dedication of the seat Saturday at the Glass Bowl before Toledo's 45-44 victory against Navy in double overtime.
Toledo Athletic Director Mike O'Brien says the empty seat will be a permanent reminder of the sacrifices made by those who were prisoners of war and those killed in action.
The university says the idea came from the POW/MIA support group in Massachusetts.
