AUGUSTA, Ga. – Lynn University’s baseball team had the perfect ending to its five-game road swing.  The Fighting Knights overpowered Paine College to the tune of 14-2 to finish its road trip 4-1 and then learned following the contest they made the jump to No. 1 in the nation.  Lynn returns home with an 9-1 overall record.

“This is good day for Lynn and its baseball program,” said head coach Rudy Garbalosa.  “We have some tremendous kids on this team that pick each other up and battle day in and day out.  This ranking, though, means we need to work harder than ever.”

The Blue and White fell behind in the second inning after third baseman Jorge Fuster led off the frame with a triple down the right field line and scored a batter later on a sacrifice fly.

Lynn fought back with six runs in the third and never looked back.  Chad Crowe gave LU the lead with a two-run line-drive single to right field.  Gabe MacDougall and Chris Chavez recorded RBI base knocks later and Casey Sedley finished off the scoring with an inside the park homerun at the very spacious Paine College Stadium.

Errors hurt the Lions the rest of the game.  Two botched plays helped the Knights add two runs in the fourth while Douglas Toro smacked the game’s second home run with a screaming two-run drive to left center field.

Sedley (1-0) not only excelled at the plate but also the mound as he earned the victory following three innings of work.  He allowed two hits and struck out two in his first start.  The Knights bullpen, which had been inconsistent, was spectacular, allowing two hits and struck out four in four scoreless innings.

Lynn topped off its scoring in the sixth with four runs aided by three Paine errors.  Sean Harvey picked up his second RBI of the year with a ground ball to second and Toro capped off his day with a RBI single.  He finished 4-for-5 with four RBIs on the afternoon.  Earning his first start in right field, Joe Roselli picked up two stolen bases and made a diving catch to end the game.

The top-ranked Fighting Knights return to action on Friday, February 20, at 6 p.m. when it faces Palm Beach Atlantic in Lake Worth, Fla.
