CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Dustin Ackley became North Carolina's career base hit leader with a 3-for-5 effort and drove in two runs to pace No. 4 national seed North Carolina past Dartmouth, 5-2, Friday in the 2009 NCAA Chapel Hill Regional at Boshamer Stadium. The Tar Heels (43-16) move on to meet Coastal Carolina at 5 p.m. Saturday, while Dartmouth (27-17) will face Kansas in an elimination game at 1 p.m.

Ackley tied Chad Flack's record with infield singles in the first and second and broke it with an RBI double in the eighth. Ben Bunting, Mark Fleury and Jacob Stallings added two hits apiece. Stallings singled twice, walked and had a sacrifice bunt in his third career two-hit game.

Carolina right-hander Matt Harvey (7-2) worked at least six innings for the third straight start, scattering nine hits and two walks over 6 1/3. He held the Big Green to two runs, struck out three and had a Tar Heel season-best four double plays turned behind him over the first six frames.

Brian Moran fanned five of the nine batters he faced over 2 1/3 scoreless innings to earn his fourth save.

Dartmouth lefty Robert Young (5-4) went seven innings and allowed 11 hits and two walks but limited the Tar Heels to four runs, only one of which scored after the third. He struck out five. Ben Murray allowed two hits and a run in the eighth.

Both teams squandered chances early, as Carolina hit into an inning-ending double play in the first, and Dartmouth followed suit in the second. The Tar Heels broke through in the bottom of the inning on a bases-loaded infield single by Ackley. Fleury singled, Mike Cavasinni was hit by a pitch and Stallings dropped a bunt single towards third, before Ackley singled off Young for his second infield hit and a 1-0 UNC lead.

Garrett Gore and Cavasinni picked up RBI in the third, as the Tar Heels grabbed a three-run cushion. After a leadoff single by Ryan Graepel, Levi Michael reached on a fielder's choice, and Fleury singled to put two on for Gore, who laced a base hit through the left side to score Michael from second. Cavasinni drove in Fleury with a squeeze bunt towards third for a 3-0 Carolina advantage.

The Tar Heels extended the lead to 4-0 in the sixth when Bunting singled, moved to second when Ackley reached on a fielder's choice and scored on Kyle Seager's RBI single up the middle. Stallings started the rally with his second infield single.

Dartmouth got on the board in the seventh, cutting the lead in half at 4-2. Brett Gardner opened the scoring with a solo home run to left, his fourth, off Harvey. Kyle Evans singled to end the night for Harvey, and Johnathon Santopadre greeted Moran with a double to put two in scoring position for Joe Sclafani, who lofted a fly ball to center to score Evans with a sacrifice fly.

Ackley's record-setting hit added an insurance run in the eighth, as Cavasinni singled, moved to third on a sacrifice and a groundout and scored when Ackley doubled down the left field line.
