LAKELAND, Fla. - The University of West Florida baseball team took down No. 1 ranked Florida Southern 4-1 Friday night on the road in what proved to be another intense in-region matchup between the two teams. The Argos were able to grab an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and cruised to the win behind stellar pitching performances by Jason Postill and Zach North.

From the start of the game the West Florida offense put the pressure on the Moccasin's starter Gus Schlosser. Back-to-back walks by Brandon Brewer and Jack Materne led off the game to get things started. A double steal and a throwing error by the Mocs' catch Zach Maggard brought home Brewer from third for the first run of the game. Greg Pron then singled through the left side for a RBI single before a Zach Cates double brought home the third and final run of the inning.

With the three run cushion, the Argos took control of the game behind the right hander Jason Postill. The only trouble Postill ran into came in the sixth inning when Kelvin Clark led off the inning with a solo homerun to left. Postil was replaced in the seventh by Zach North who came in with a runner on first. After two pitches he induced Trae Gore to hit into an inning ending double play and end the treat.

Postil picked up his second win of the season to improve to 2-2 on the season while North earned his second save of the season. This marks the second consecutive year that the Argos have beaten a No. 1 ranked team as they beat top ranked Southern Arkansas last season.

These two teams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
