Joe Patterson and Kevin Gonzalez hit solo home runs in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively, to power Texas A&M into the NCAA Coral Gables Regional championship game with a 4-3 win over Dartmouth Sunday afternoon at Alex Rodriguez Park.

The Aggies (42-20-1) saw a lead evaporate in the fifth after allowing three unearned runs, but rallied late and got a huge outing from closer John Stilson to lock down the victory. The Big Green's season ended at 27-19.

The Aggies took an early 2-0 lead on an RBI double by Matt Juengel in the first and a two-out solo home run to left by Brodie Greene in the third.

Dartmouth did its damage in the fourth, taking advantage of an error on a sure inning-ending double-play ball to score three unearned runs. With the bases loaded, Jake Carlson flared a ball inside the line in right in front of Ty Naquin to put the Big Green on the board. Then, with two outs, Brett Gardner delivered a huge go-ahead, two-run single through the left side.

The score remained the same until Patterson drove a two-out, 0-1 pitch from Dartmouth closer Ryan Smith down the left field line and over the fence for his ninth home run of the year.

The game then was delayed for one hour and seven minutes two pitches into the bottom of the eighth, and upon resumption the Big Green managed two infield singles off Stilson to put the go-ahead run at third base with two outs. Stilson then got Carlson to ground up the middle, where a nice play by Adam Smith at second and a great pick by Patterson at first preserved the tie.

The next batter of the game, Gonzalez, delivered a full-count home run to left to give A&M the lead for good. Dartmouth would get two on with a two-out rally in their final at-bat, but Stilson fanned Chris O'Dowd to end the game.
Stilson (9-1) earned the win in relief, allowing three hits over three shutout innings. He matched a season high with six strikeouts. A&M starter Clayton Ehlert allowed five hits over 4 1/3 innings, walking just one and fanning six. All three runs he gave up were unearned.

Smith (3-2) took the loss, allowing the two hits and two runs over 2.2 innings. Hunter allowed four hits and one earned run over 6.1 frames, walking two and matching a career high with seven strikeouts.

Texas A&M must now defeat host Miami twice to advance to the super regional round next week. The Aggies and Hurricanes will face off at 4:40 p.m. (ET). Freshman Michael Wacha (8-2, 4.42 ERA) will face UM senior David Gutierrez (5-1, 4.75). The game will air nationally on ESPNU HD.

POSTGAME NOTES: The victory was just the second for Texas A&M this season when trailing after seven innings, both coming in the last week (vs Baylor last Sunday in Oklahoma City and this afternoon) ... Brodie Greene had two hits to raise his season total to 102, five shy of the school single-season record ... A&M improved to 6-1 under coach Rob Childress in NCAA regional elimination games ... the 16 strikeouts by the pitching staff were the most by an Aggie team in an NCAA game in records dating back to 1986 ... Andrew Collazo's bunt in the seventh set the team school record for sacrifice hits in a season (60) ... Brodie Greene extended his hit streak to seven games with a first-inning single ... Sunday's game was the fourth ever by Texas A&M against an Ivy League school, and first against Dartmouth ... the Aggies are 1-1 all-time vs Cornell and last played an Ivy team in the 1993 Central I Regional at Olsen Field, when they defeated Yale ... the game was stopped at 2:13 local time for a lightning/rain delay which lasted for one hour, seven minutes ... play resumed at 3:20 p.m.
