Eighth-ranked Emporia State scattered 10 hits in a 5-3 victory against Ottawa on Wednesday.

The Hornets used seven different pitchers in the contest as no Hornet pitcher allowed more than two hits.

ESU got things started in a three-run third inning capped by a home run by second baseman Andy Cotton. ESU put up one run in the fifth inning before the Braves answered with two in the top of the sixth. ESU would grab another run in the bottom of the sixth and allowed the Braves a run in the top of the ninth.

Dillon Hazlett had the hot bat for the Hornets, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Jacob White had two infield hits and an RBI. David Albritton had two hits and drove in two runs. Cotton added two hits, including a home run.

On the mound, Derek Brooks earned his first win of the season, going 2.0 innings and striking out two while allowing one hit. Jake Hosey started and struck out three for the Hornets. Brett Kinsel, Zach Gove and Michael Cotter all pitched one inning of hitless relief for ESU.

Spenser Augustine led Ottawa, going 2-for-4. Dustin Balmer had a home run, two RBI, one run scored and one hit. Jason Beers had the other RBI for the Braves.
