UCLA beats Fresno St. to stay alive
Bauer struck out 14 in ninth consecutive complete game
LOS ANGELES -- Trevor Bauer struck out 14 in his ninth consecutive complete game and UCLA stayed alive in the NCAA Los Angeles Regional with a 3-1 victory against Fresno State on Saturday.
Bauer (13-2) struck out the side in the fifth, seventh and eighth innings, giving him 203 strikeouts on the year, surpassing Mark Prior’s Pac-10 record of 202.
After being shutout Friday night in a 3-0 loss to San Francisco, UCLA (34-23) opened the scoring in the first on Cody Keefer’s RBI single.
Cody Regis added a run in the fourth inning on a chopper to shortstop that brought in Pat Valaika, making the score 2-0, more than enough support for Bauer.
On Sunday, the Bruins will play the UC Irvine-San Francisco in another elimination game.
The Bulldogs, the 2008 NCAA champions, finished the season 40-16.
