SAN DIEGO -- Nino Giarratano has become the winningest baseball coach in University of San Francisco history, earning his 374th victory Friday night as the Dons beat Cal State-Northridge 6-5 in 10 innings.

Giarratano, in his 14th season with San Francisco, surpassed Dante Benedetti with the milestone win. He also moved into sixth place on the West Coast Conference career victories list.

“It’s a great feeling and it’s an honor to be mentioned in the same breath as Dante Benedetti,” Giarratano said.

The Dons (6-4) relinquished a 3-1 lead in the seventh inning when the Matadors (6-4) scored four times. But San Francisco scored a run in the eighth and another in the ninth to tie it before Nik Balog’s sacrifice fly scored Mason Morioka with the go-ahead run in the 10th.
