Defending national champion West Chester will begin the 2013 campaign ranked No. 1 in the nation in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's annual NCAA Division II Preseason Top 40 Poll.

The Golden Rams shut out Delta State 9-0 to claim their first Division II college baseball national championship last year. They ended the 2012 season with a 12-game winning streak and tied the school record for most wins in a single season (46).

The defending Gulf South Conference and NCAA Super Region II champion Statesmen are ranked No. 2. Delta State went 49-15 last season and returns six starters in the field this year. 

Mount Olive, Central Missouri and St. Mary's (Texas) round out the top five.

Central Missouri fell to St. Mary's in last year's South Central Regional Championship. St. Mary's was eliminated in the third round of last year's College World Series with a 5-4 loss to Catawba, which is ranked No. 13 in the preseason poll.
