Baker struck out nine to improve to 3-0. The junior right-hander allowed five hits and walked one while improving to 17-3 as a Wildcat, tying Phil Derryman for eighth on the school’s career wins list. He also registered his 100th career strikeout when designated hitter David Garcia went down swinging to end the fourth.

Gibbs homered for the fifth time in six games and drove in the Wildcats’ first three runs. Pierson Jeremiah’s tacked on a two-run double during a three-run ninth.

Cal State Monterey Bay fell to 13-7 overall and 8-5 in the CCAA.

The Wildcats manufactured a run in the first when leadoff man Eric Angerer was hit by a pitch, moved to second when Jeremiah drew a walk, to third on Austin Prott’s sacrifice, and scored on Gibbs’ grounder.

That was the game’s lone run until the sixth when Prott led off with a walk and Gibbs followed with a blast over the left-field wall to make it 3-0.

Baker worked around a pair of hits in the eighth before the Wildcats blew it open with three in the ninth.

Ryne Clark led off with a single, Angerer walked and Jeremiah doubled to right to plate both runners. Ronnie Galosic traded places with him to make it 6-0.
