Ithaca sends Kean packing with 3-1 win to keep title quest alive
APPLETON, Wis. -- Ithaca won its second consecutive game at the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship, with a 3-1 win against Kean on Sunday at Fox Cities Stadium. The Bombers scored twice in the first inning and added a run in the fifth to support winning pitcher Jasper Adams and reliever Jimmy Wagner.
Ithaca's first-inning runs came with two outs. Tim Locastro reached on a single and stole second base and third base. Colby Gee doubled down the left field line to bring in Locastro and Corey Caswell followed with a single to bring home Gee.
The Bombers added a run in the fifth when Christian Brown lined a triple into the left-field corner that scored Andrew Turner.
Kean scored its only run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly.
Meanwhile, Adams dominated on the mound for the Bombers. He limited Kean to just five hits in seven innings, with two strikeouts and he didn't walk a single batter. Kean entered the tournament statistically ranked in the top-20 nationally in both hits and runs. Wagner pitched the final two innings to record the save. He had three strikeouts and allowed no hits or walks to pick up his sixth save of the season and second of the championship tournament.
Adams is 4-0 in his last four starts with 46 strikeouts and just 10 walks in 36.1 innings pitched. He has allowed 30 hits in those innings, with only two of those going for extra bases. He is 7-0 on the season.
Gee's double and Brown's triple were the only extra-base hits for the Bombers. Tim Locastro had two hits, stole three bases and scored. Tim Henry, Caswell, Vinny Gneo, and Matt Connolly also had hits for Ithaca.
