Plucheck contributes three RBIs to power Sam Houston St. past Louisiana-Lafayette
BATON ROUGE, La. -- Luke Plucheck's early home run and late two-run double lifted Sam Houston State to a 4-2 victory against Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.
Sam Houston starter Cody Dickson did not allow a hit until the fifth inning. He left in the sixth after giving up a two-out single by Blake Trahan that tied the game at two.
Plucheck's extra-base hit off reliever Matt Hicks put the Bearkats back ahead in the seventh.
In the ninth, Plucheck made a catch against the left field wall off a towering shot by Dex Kjerstad that was a few feet from tying it.
Alan Scott (2-0) got the win for Sam Houston, while Hicks (3-2) took the loss.
