B9: Johnson is in fact back out there for the ninth inning and he gives up a leadoff single to Tarran Senay ... Johnson gets an out but then Brett Williams singles through the rightside to put two runners on. That ends Johnson's night as he goes 8.1 innings -- a career high. Here comes Chris McCue who got the save against LSU the other night ... Adametz lines out to RF and Skye Bolt doubles off the runner at first to end the game. That ends it as Hobbs Johnson moves to 5-1 while Carlos Rodon falls to 10-3 ... North Carolina wins 7-0.

T9: This is the first appearance of the CWS for Chris Overman -- owner of a sparkling 0.34 ERA. That's one earned run in 26.1 innings. ... UNC tacks on a run as Colin Moran singles home his second run of the game -- it's charged to D.J. Thomas ... We go to the bottom of the ninth ... something to keep in mind -- NC State hasn't been shut out in 76 consecutive games dating back to the 2012 ACC tournament  ... 7-0 North Carolina.

B8: Hobbs Johnson has continued the great stretch of starting pitching performances we've seen this year in Omaha as he gets through the eighth inning allowing just one single in the frame. Johnson is at 120 pitches so you'd think in a 6-0 game that might be it for him ...

T8: How about Brad Stone? He had one of the highest ERAs on the NC State pitching staff coming into tonight but he's gone right through the UNC order. It was 5.28 when he entered and he's got it down to 5.04 ... Cody Stubbs is batting with a runner on first with two outs ... And just like that the bases are loaded after a walk and a hit-by-pitch ... Stone is out of there and here comes Ryan Wilkins (6-2, 4.02) to face Michael Russell with the bases loaded. Russell had a sac-fly with the sacks full back in the fourth which scored the first run of the game ... This is the first RHP UNC has faced in 213 consecutive plate appearances dating back to the regional final against FAU. Wow. ... And Russell delivers a 2-run single back up the middle. Russell now with three RBI ... That'll be the only batter Wilkins faces as Avent calls on you guessed it -- a lefty -- as D.J. Thomas (2-0, 2.60) comes in ... Mike Zolk greets him with a double into the RF corner to score two more runs and Zolk gets thrown out third trying to advance. For Zolk, he now has 39 RBI on the year. ... 6-0 North Carolina.

B7: Great play by Hobbs Johnson to knock down a liner by Jake Armstrong that had its eyes set on CF. He recovered nicely and threw out a diving Armstrong at first base. Johnson has allowed just two hits through seven.

T7: Get up and stretch! Stone gets Zolk, Jordan and Frank in order. This game has really moved along as UNC gets some action going in its bullpen with Johnson near 100 pitches. One of them is Chris McCue, who pitched very well against LSU on Tuesday.

B6: Johnson cruises through the sixth inning with a pop up and two ground outs and has 93 pitches after six innings.

T6: Brad Stone (3-2, 5.28) is into the game in place of Rodon who threw 80 pitches and is done after five innings ... Stone, a freshman, started 13 games this year with 16 appearances overall. He did not face the Tar Heels this year ... Stubbs makes the first out of the inning as Bolt comes up to the plate ... Bolt lines out to 3B for the second out ... Russell hits one deep to LF but this park is big enough to hold it to end the inning.

B5: With the first two outs in the fifth, Johnson has gone 10.1 innings against NC State this season and allowed just one run and struck out 14. Everyone wanted to talk about Rodon against UNC coming into this game but Johnson has pitched well against the Wolfpack in 2013 ... Inning ends with a weak grounder to second bse by Fincher. We go to the sixth.

T5: Rodon starts the inning by hitting the nine-hole hitter Parks Jordan -- that's the fourth time UNC has had the leadoff hitter on ... Chaz Frank lays down a sac-bunt to get Jordan over to second with one out ... UNC looking for the first hit with a runner in scoring position tonight and against Rodon at the CWS as they are 0-for-11 in that spot in two games ... Landon Lassiter who struck out in his first two at bats, grounds out to second for the second out of the inning which moved Jordan over to third. Can Colin Moran do it? ... He does, lining a base hit up the middle for his 90th RBI of the season -- the first to ACC player to hit that mark since Buster Posey did so in 1998. UNC now 1-for-7 with RISP ... Inning ends with a Brian Holberton groundout to third ... 2-0 North Carolina.

B4: The Wolfpack break up the no-hitter with a one-out single by Grant Clyde ... We wait another day for the first CWS no-hitter since 1960 ... Brett Williams follows with a flyout to LF for the second out ... Bryan Adametz laces a single to LF and the Wolfpack have two on with two out for Jake Armstrong ... Johnson gets Armstrong looking to end the inning. The teams are now combined 0-for-10 with RISP ... Rodon is at 67 pitches while Johnson sits at 76 each through four innings of work.

T4: Colin Moran grounds one up the box into CF for a leadoff hit. All of UNC's hits have come leading off an inning ... Brian Holberton lays down a bunt that Rodon throws into CF as he tries to get Moran at 2B. That's right -- their clean-up batter laid down a bunt ... If you're keeping score at home, each team now has an E1 on a bunt that they threw away at second base. Let's see if Rodon can get out of this jam ... Stubbs follows with a walk. Bases now full for Skye Bolt ... He grounds one softly to third and Grant Clyde throws home to get Moran. One out and the bases still loaded for Michael Russell -- a .231 hitter with the bases loaded ... Russell lifts one to RF as Fincher throws home and NEARLY got Holberton who slides in safely. Incredible throw by Fincher but it was the correct call. Holberton got his hand in ... When the call was made, catcher Brett Austin threw his helmet down and Rodon threw his glove down. Head coach Elliott Avent and one of his assistants came sprinting out of the dugout to argue with home plate umpire Joe Burleson. Can't say I've ever seen four reactions like that and nobody get thrown out of a game ... Inning ends on a fly ball to CF by Mike Zolk ... 1-0 North Carolina.

B3: A strikeout starts the fourth as Logan Ratledge goes down for Johnson's fourth K of the evening ... Leadoff man Trea Turner walks and draws a throw to first from catcher Brian Holberton as he strayed a little too far off the bag. Turner slid in safely but the throw almost went over Cody Stubbs' head ... Turner eventually steals second -- his 29th in 35 tries this year. Middle of the order coming up for the Wolfpack with a runner in scoring position ... Fincher grounds out to third and with Brett Austin up, Turner steals third base for his 30th of the season ... The threat ends as Brett Austin lifts a ball to RF for an easy out. The teams are now a combined 0-for-7 with RISP.

T3: Mike Zolk leads off the inning with a perfect bunt down the third-base side that catcher Brett Austin throws away down the RF line allowing Zolk to take second base. Parks Jordan now up and then back to the top of the order ... Jordan gets down another great bunt which Austin this time guns to first for the out moving Zolk to third. Here's Chaz Frank with a runner on third and one out ... Rodon gets Frank swinging for strike three and his fifth strikeout ... It'll be left to Landon Lassiter to get that run in from third ... And Lassiter goes down swinging as well for Rodon's 6th K of the night. Rodon pumps his first and shows a bit of emotion coming off the mound. UNC moves to 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position against Rodon in the CWS. Huge three outs there after the leadoff man was on second.

B2: Following a groundout by Brett Williams, Bryan Adametz hit the hardest ball of the night but it was right out at CF Chaz Frank for the second out ... And Hobbs Johnson has a 1-2-3 inning as he gets Jake Armstrong to ground out to 2B. Johnson is at 38 pitches through two innings.

T2: Cody Stubbs strikes out to start the second. Those fielders are getting bored out there -- 7-for-7 in the strikeout department combined ... And the streak ends with Skye Bolt, but it's still an out as he grounds out to SS for the second out ... Rodon falls behind Michael Russell 3-0 but he throws back-to-back strikes to get him to ground out to third to end the inning.

B1: Four outs in this game -- four strikeouts as UNC's Hobbs Johnson strikes out Trea Turner looking to lead off the inning ... Jake Fincher follows with his 32nd walk of the year ... Brett Austin with a swinging bunt that Hobbs Johnson throws to second but SS Michael Russell came off the bag too soon so everybody is safe. Charge an error to Johnson as Austin reaches on a fielders' choice. Now NC State's biggest power-threat Tarran Senay ... Johnson gets Senay swinging for the second out -- five outs in the game, five strikeouts ... Things are left to Grant Clyde with runners on first and second ... Make that 6-for-6 in the strikeout department as Johnson follows Rodon's first inning by striking out the side as well. Five of those six strikeouts were swinging. Nice start for both sides.

T1: In their first matchup at the CWS, it took UNC 5.2 innings to figure out Carlos Rodon for its first hit. Not tonight. Chaz Frank lined the second pitch of the night into CF for a leadoff single ... Landon Lassiter follows with a 10-pitch at bat but Rodon gets Lassiter swinging for the first out of the inning. Could be an early turning point in this one. ... Rodon gets what he needs -- striking out Moran on only three pitches for the second out. Frank follows with his team-leading 24th stolen base ... But Brian Holberton can't get him home as he goes down swinging. Rodon strikes out the side on 18 pitches -- 15 strikes.

Pregame: In a move that can't make UNC head coach Mike Fox happy, NC State will send starter Carlos Rodon (10-2, 3.04) to the mound -- the same guy that beat the Tar Heels on Sunday in the teams' opening game in the CWS. The lefty tossed a complete game, allowing one run in the ninth inning after taking a no-hit bid into the fifth. The sophomore allowed just five hits while striking out eight Tar Heels. His numbers against UNC in three appearances in 2013: 2-0, 25.2 IP, 32 K. Rodon is back after throwing 108 pitches in that one. As for UNC, it'll be lefty Hobbs Johnson (4-1, 2.62). His last appearance came on June 9 against South Carolina when he lasted only 1.2 innings and allowed five hits, three walks and five runs in a loss to the Gamecocks ... The starting of Rodon shouldn't come as a surprise -- remember, of UNC's 11 losses this season, nine of them have come against lefties. They are a lefty-dominated lineup with six in there regularly.

Pregame: After a steak and burger lunch at the world-famous Drover, it's time for baseball at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha. North Carolina and NC State meet in Game 10 with the loser heading home. The weather report: 89 degrees with partly cloudy skies. The wind is howling in from CF at 25 miles per hour. There is a 40 percent chance of rain tonight as well.

With the win against LSU, North Carolina posted its school-record 58th victory eclipsing the 2007 squad that won 57 wins. ... UNC is the only team in the country to not suffer a losing streak in 2013 and is looking to become the first Tar Heel squad to accomplish the feat since the 1953 team went a full season without suffering back-to-back losses. UNC is 11-0 after a loss this season and is outscoring its opponents 85-30. ... Colin Moran scored a pair of runs to move into a tie for seventh place on the school’s single-season runs charts (75).

NC State dropped just its fifth game since March 31 (32-5; .865), boasting a higher winning percentage than any of the other seven CWS teams during that stretch. ... The Pack mustered just five hits on the night, the fewest since Apr. 14 at Boston College when they had three (span of 27 games including NCAA tournament postseason). ... Trea Turner has reached base in 111 of 118 career games (94 percent). ... Brett Austin has caught all 107 innings of NC State’s 10 postseason games sine the ACC tournament. He has caught 577 of 607 total innings this season (95.1 percent).

Great crowds all series long.
Hobbs Johnson off to a nice start in this one ...
The feeling of the NC State fans about starter Carlos Rodon.
