TAMPA, Fla. -- Head coach Joe Urso earned his 600th career victory as No. 1 Tampa trumped Palm Beach Atlantic by a 7-6 final score. The walk-off victory improves the Spartan record to 33-2 on the season while the Sailfish fall to 13-18.
As the all-time winningest baseball coach in Tampa history, Urso's storied career sits a 600-178-1 after the monumental win.
Third baseman Tyler Ding laced a RBI single to left field to walk off with the win Friday evening.
Outfielder Stephen Dezzi blasted a two RBI home run to in the early innings for Tampa while catcher Nick Tindall recorded his team-leading ninth homer of the season, a solo shot to left field. The junior Tindall and seniors Sean O'Brien and Ding each posted a pair of hits and a RBI to round out the Spartan attack.
PBA scored the first run of the game behind a Ryan Drew double to give the Sailfish a 1-0 lead.
UT exploded for five runs in the third as Dezzi roped his homer to left center while O'Brien and Tyler York each scored a run. Rightfielder Zach Gawrych posted a sacrifice fly to put Tampa ahead 5-1 after three frames.
Tindall would pad the lead in the sixth after his solo home run. PBA would tie the game in the seventh, forcing an early entry for Spartan closer Kevin McNorton to stop the bleeding.
Senior McNorton (3-0) would pitch the final two-and-a-third innings to earn the walk-off win. The right-hander limited the Sailfish to three hits while striking out two.
