Second-ranked Lander holds off Anderson, 7-5

ANDERSON, S.C. – No. 2-ranked Lander scored three runs each in the fourth and fifth innings Tuesday afternoon en route to a 7-5 non-conference victory against Anderson at Memorial Stadium.

Lander improves to 32-6 overall, while the Trojans drop to 16-25.

The Bearcats' Ryan Jones (7-0) earned the win with four strikeouts, one walk and three earned runs on seven hits in seven innings pitched. LU's Brandon White earned his eighth save of the year with two strikeouts in one innning.

Anderson's Spencer Earle (1-6) suffered the loss with one strikeout, five walks and three earned runs on four hits in four innings pitched.

Lander took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Erik Lunde walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, to third on Connor Lewis' groundout and scored on a fielding error.

The Bearcats stretched the lead to 4-0 in the fourth on Lunde's RBI double that plated Austin Dunn and Colby Painter, and Patrick Grady's sacrifice fly that sent Tyler Wilson home.

The Trojans trimmed the margin to 4-3 in the bottom of the inning on Paul Como's two-run, home run to left centerfield, then Josh Hickman drove in Jonathan Zalud.

The Bearcats made it 7-3 in the fifth after Graham Ramos double in Thomas Berry, then Colby Painter and Austin Dunn had back-to-back sacrifice flies that scored Weston Lawing and Ramos.

Anderson rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth when Paul Como scored on a bases-loaded walk and Matthew Powell scored on Garrett Bernardo's sacrifice fly.
