Seton Hill sweeps Atlantic Region to earn first trip to finals

Seton Hill won all four of its games in the Atlantic Region.

WEST LAWN, Pa. -- The dream became a reality on Sunday afternoon as the Griffins earned their first NCAA finals appearance after 3-0 victory against Millersville in the Atlantic Regional final.  Brett Sullivan went the distance to earn the victory. SHU moved to 40-15 overall.

Seton Hill broke the ice with a run in the top of the second inning. Chris Miller led off with a single and stole second base. After a strikeout, Garret Vrbanic singled to move Miller to third. Vrbanic was then picked off with a first to third move. Brandon Jossey then came through with a huge two out RBI single to give SHU the 1-0 lead. Brett Sullivan was able to get out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the second on a groundout to Vrbanic.

The Griffins added a run in the top of the fifth without a hit. Marauder starter Tad Barton hit two hitters and walked another to load the bases before Anthony Fanelli's sacrifice fly scored Brandon Jossey to give the Griffins a 2-0 lead. SHU continued to add on in the sixth. Cody Herald doubled to the left center field gap with one out.  He moved to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a perfectly executed squeeze play by Matt Malacane to give SHU the 3-0 lead.

Millersville got a one out double in the eighth but Brett Sullivan got a strikeout looking and a foul out to Malacane to set down the Marauders. Millersville got a leadoff double in the ninth but Sullivan settled down and got a groundout, flyout and a strikeout to end the contest and send the Griffins to Cary.

Brett Sullivan went the distance to earn his eighth victory of the season. He scattered eight hits for the complete-game shutout. He struck out four and walked just one. Anthony Fanelli, Matt Malacane and Brandon Jossey each had an RBI.
