Columbia wins program-record 29th game

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Columbia, which has been playing baseball since 1888, set a school record with its 29th victory of the season by beating Bucknell 4-3 in 10 innings Saturday.

The Lions (29-18) surpassed last year's team, which won 28 games while earning the first NCAA tournament victory in school history when it beat New Mexico. Columbia, which won the Ivy League title two weeks ago, took two of three against Bucknell (30-19-1), the Patriot League champion.

Columbia will play in the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive year and fourth time overall.

The Lions, trailing 3-2, scored the tying run in the eighth on a fielding error. In the 10th, Jordan Serena hit a leadoff triple and scored the eventual winning run on David Vandercook's sacrifice fly.

Mike Weisman (2-0) got the win in relief, while George Thanopoulos picked up his third save. Xavier Hammond (3-5) took the loss.
