Texas tops Rice 3-2 in 11 innings

HOUSTON -- Brooks Marlow had four hits, including the go-ahead RBI single in the 11th inning, as Texas Longhorns outlasted Rice 3-2 in 11 innings to advance to the finals of the Houston regional on Saturday night.

Marlow's single off Jon Duplantier (2-3) scored Zane Gurwitz, who doubled to lead off the inning.

John Curtiss (2-2) threw four perfect innings for the win for Texas (40-18), who will face the winner of the Rice-Texas A&M elimination game Sunday night.

C.J. Hinojosa's sacrifice fly scored Mark Payton to tie it at 2 for Texas in the eighth. Payton and Tres Barrera, who had an RBI in the sixth, each had two hits.

Skyler Ewing's run-scoring double in the sixth put Rice (42-19) on top 2-1.

Blake Fox allowed two runs and nine hits in seven innings for Rice, while Parker French allowed two runs and six hits in 6.2 innings for Texas.
