BATON ROUGE, La. -- Houston took advantage of six errors by Southeastern Louisiana that led to seven unearned runs and the Cougars went on to a 9-5 victory Sunday at the Baton Rouge Regional.
After pushing across a single unearned run in the first, Houston (46-16) took command in the second with six unearned runs on four hits.
Kyle Survance went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, and Frankie Ratcliff also had a double with two RBI. Aaron Garza (9-4) went six innings, allowing two runs and striking out one in the win.
Landon Appling's two-run triple in the eighth gave the Cougars a 9-2 lead. Kennon Menard's two-run single in the bottom of the inning cut it to 9-4.
Sean Kennel (5-4) allowed seven unearned runs and five hits in 1.2 innings for the Lions (38-25).
The game was delayed 63 minutes by rain in the top of the seventh inning.
