No. 10 USC sweeps No. 25 Arizona on road

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The No. 10 USC Trojans won a wild, back-and-forth 10-9 contest against No. 25 Arizona at Hi Corbett Field on Saturday afternoon to complete the series sweep in Tucson for the first time since 2001.

The Trojans (25-6, 7-2 Pac-12) came back from a 5-1 deficit to beat the Wildcats (22-9, 7-5 Pac-12) with the go-ahead run coming on an infield single from David Oppenheim in the top of the ninth.

The Trojans collected 15 hits in the game, and Bobby Stahel, Jeremy Martinez, AJ Ramirez and Oppenheim each drove in two runs apiece in the victory.

The Trojans got on the board first in the top of the first on a sac fly from Timmy Robinson, but the Wildcats came roaring back, taking a 2-1 lead with two in the bottom of the second and a three-run home run from Bobby Dalbec in the bottom of the third pushed the Wildcats ahead 5-1 and saw starter Mitch Hart's day end.

The Trojans answered quickly, putting up a seven spot in the top of the fourth inning for the second consecutive day to take an 8-5 lead and get Hart off the hook.

In the back-and-forth fashion of the day, however, the Wildcats added one in the bottom of the fourth and although the Trojans added one in the top of the fifth, the Wildcats answered with two in the seventh and one in the eighth to tie the game going into the top of the ninth.

Against Wildcat reliever Bobby Dalbec in his second inning of work, Robinson led off the inning with a walk. Dante Flores laid down the sac bunt to advance Robinson to second. Blake Lacey then grounded out to first base to advance Robinson to third, but was the second out of the inning. Oppenheim then hit the 1-1 pitch, a slow grounder to shortstop that Kevin Newman tried to make the bare-hand pick and throw, but the ball rolled under his hand and the infield single plated the eventual game-winning run.

Marc Huberman threw a solid two innings of relief and was able to strand two Wildcats in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the win, his fifth of the season.
