COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- For the second game in a row Virginia Commonwealth defeated No. 21 Maryland, this time by a score of 3-1.
Ben Stine, Thomas Gill, and Daniel Concepcion baffled Maryland hitters all night, allowing just six hits against the potent Terrapins offense. Stine, making just the second start of his VCU career, tossed five shutout innings.
At the plate Cody Acker had a three-hit game while Brett Hileman, Mitchel Lacey, and Daane Berezo all had multi-hit efforts as well.
VCU grabbed an early lead in the top of the second inning after Daane Berezo singled up the middle off the pitcher's glove and brought in Shane Dressler to score. In the top of the fourth Mitchel Lacey scored on a bases loaded wild pitch to give the Rams a 2-0 lead. Logan Farrar singled to left field in the top of the eighth to drive in Berezo and give VCU a 3-0 lead.
