College World Series -- What to Watch: June 16

Game 7:  LSU Tigers vs. Cal State Fullerton Titans

Did You Know: LSU enters the College World Series No. 2 in the nation in base hits (734) and No. 4 in team batting average (.316). The LSU pitching staff is No. 10 in the nation with a 2.84 team ERA.   Did You Know: The Titans have lost the last seven games they have played at the College World Series. Their last win came in 2006, a 7-6 victory against Clemson.
On the Bump: Alex Lange is a freshman and 1-0 in the postseason with a 1.59 ERA, 23 strikeouts and just three walks in 17 innings.   On the Bump: In two postseason starts Connor Seabold has a 0.82 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 11 innings.
In the Box: Andrew Stevenson is a three year starter for the Tigers, leading the team with a .354 batting average.

 

 

  In the Box: Jerrod Bravo singled to right field in the ninth inning to reach base safely for the 45th consecutive game, extending his school record
Pepper:  This is Rick Vanderhook's first trip to the CWS as head coach of CSU Fullerton. But he's already won three titles with the Titans, his first as a player in 1984 and two others as an assistant in 1985 and 2004.
• LSU and CSF have met 10 times -- the last one coming in 2011. The Tigers (53-11) are 6-4 in the series.
• Tigers are 14-2 this year in games that Lange has started this season.
• David Olmedo-Barrera had as many home runs in the regular season (10) as the rest of his team.

Did You Know: Vanderbilt has scored the go-ahead runs in the seventh inning or later in each of its six NCAA tournament wins this season.   Did You Know: TCU becomes the third Big 12 team to advance to Omaha in back-to-back seasons. A league team has made repeat appearances on five occasions (Nebraska 2001-02, Texas 2002-05 and TCU 14-15).
On the Bump: Philip Pfeifer's College World Series debut after sitting out last year's national title run.   On the Bump:  Alex Young was the  first Big 12 player chosen in the baseball draft when Arizona took him to open the second round.
In the Box: Jeren Kendall hit a walk-off home run to push Vandy to the winner bracket.

 

 

  In the Box: Using baseball jargon -- Cody Jones can rake. The TCU senior has a .371 batting average and has stolen 31 bases.
Pepper: TCU's Schlossnagle was the pitching coach on the U.S. national team in 2006 managed by Tim Corbin, the Vanderbilt coach.
• TCU is making its third appearence in the CWS in the past six years.
 

20-second action rule approved in college baseball

The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved a 20-second action rule in baseball that will be enforced before all pitches in the 2019-20 academic year. A base umpire will keep the clock on the field if no visible clocks are available.
