BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The University of Bridgeport men’s basketball team saw its 2008-09 season come to a close on Saturday afternoon, as the Purple Knights fell to the Bentley University Falcons, 79-53, in the 2009 NCAA Division II East Regional hosted by C. W. Post. UB finishes its season with a 22-9 record, and Bentley moves on to the regional semifinals to face Merrimack with a 25-6 mark.
Bridgeport never led in the game, as the Purple Knights hit only 24.1 percent of their shots in the first half (7 of 29), scoring a first half season low 16 points. The 53 points in the game were also a season low for Bridgeport.
Senior Teairez Stennis (St. Louis, MO) closed out his stellar two-year UB career with a team-high 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. In his two years in a Bridgeport uniform, Stennis fell just short of 1,000 career points, as he netted a total of 963.
Junior Demetrious Phillips (Baltimore, MD) scored nine points on the day and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds plus blocked two shots.
Jason Westrol led four Bentley players in double figures with a game-high 23 points, as he connected on 9 of 16 shots.
