Kansas junior guard Tyrone Appleton-----------------
ON COMING IN COLD OFF THE BENCH
“Coach just told me to be ready, and I was over there trying to stay warm and
moving around a bit so I wouldn’t get too stiff.”
ONWHETHER HE THOUGHT HEWOULD PLAY IN THE

MATCHUP AGAINST NORTH DAKOTA STATE
“It was a surprise to me when they first called me off the bench. I’ll always
be ready, and I was ready. I was happy to get into the game, especially a big
game like this in the NCAA Tournament, my first tournament game. I wasn’t
nervous, I just wanted to go out there and help my team as much as I can.”
ON NORTH DAKOTA STATE SENIOR GUARD BENWOODSIDE
“I was surprised he was that good. We knew, like, we watched a lot of tape
of him, and we knew he was dangerous, but, the stuff he showed us tonight,
he showed he was a really good player. Really good.”
Kansas sophomore Guard Tyrel Reed------------------

ON HIS TEAM’SMINDSET HEADING INTO HALFTIME UP 43-34
OVER NORTH DAKOTA STATE
“You know, we were nine points better off than when we started. That was
our mindset, ya know, we though we could play better defense and we
thought we could play better all around.”

ON USING THEIR SIZE ADVANTAGE IN THEIRMATCHUPWITH
NORTH DAKOTA STATE
“We knew that they didn’t have the biggest team, and we wanted to pound
the ball inside to Cole [Aldrich] whenever we could. I thought we executed
very well today. Defensively we could have played better, but I thought offensively
we executed well.”

ON NORTH DAKOTA STATE
“We knew they had nothing to lose, and that they had a lot of seniors on their
team. I think a lot of them redshirted there their freshman year so that they
could play once they became a Division I team. We knew they were going to
play hard, and they did, and we give them a lot of credit for that.”
Kansas freshman forward/centerMarkieffMorris-----

ON BENWOODSIDE
“WellWoodside, he’s a great player and he was making great plays today for
his team. He was making tough shots and getting to the basket every time.
He was keeping them in the game. You can tell that he’s the heart and soul of
that team.”

ON THE SCORING BATTLE BETWEENWOODSIDE AND SHERRON
COLLINS
“They were going back-and-forth. Sherron got us involved a little more, he
had eight assists, butWoodside is a tough guard to defend. He’s probably the
best guard we’ve played against all year.”

ON HALF-TIME ADJUSTMENTS
“We had to try and keep (Woodside) out of the lane, he was penetrating and
making great decisions off the penetration, and he was hitting threes, so we
had to just try and defend the back-screen a little better.”

ON COLE ALDRICH
“They’re a small team, so we had to try and get the big fella involved as much
as we could. I think we could’ve got him the ball more often, but we got the
victory and that’s all that counts.”

Kansas freshman forward/centerMarcusMorris------
ON NORTH DAKOTA STATE
“We weren’t surprised by how good they were. They are a good team and we
knew they were going to shoot three’s and come out and attack us.

ON SHERRON COLLINS’ PLAY
“Sherron’s just a competitor. He has the heart of a lion, and he doesn’t back
down from any challenges. He shows what he can do.”

ON THE CROWD AND THE ATMOSPHERE
“It was a good crowd. I wasn’t surprised by it because I knew they were
going to have a good following. They had the majority of the fans, but I think
both crowds were great. It was a great atmosphere.”
ONWHEN HE KNEWTHE GAMEWAS IN HAND
“I never knew. They can shoot so well from behind the three-point line, and
you can never count a team out that can shoot like that.Maybe when there
was 50 seconds left and Sherron was at the line shooting free throws. I
thought it was over then.”
NORTH DAKOTA STATE

Junior forward Dejuan Flowers--------------------------
ON DEFENDING ALDRICH
“He had a good size advantage. Our strategy was to stay in front of him so he
wouldn’t get easy touches in the post.We had to make his touches a little
difficult.”

ON PLAYING IN THE DOME
“It was nice playing back home. It nice to have so many fans at the game supporting
us.”

ON HALF TIME
“It was the same as if we were down in a regular season game.We have been
in this situation before, just come back and take care of the ball and take care
of the ball.”
ON THE SENIORS
“These guys are a great group of guys. It has been a blast being around them,
they are like family.”

ON THE GAME
“It seems like we were always within three points and we could never break
that. Especially when we were getting three or four stops on the ball and
then they would come up with a big dunk. It was a tough loss.We left it all
out there and we played our hardest.”
ON ALDRICH
“He is a great player. With Collins getting in there and throwing it up to him,
he just finishes so well.”
ON THE EXPERIENCE
“It couldn’t of gotten much better. Obviously if we would’ve won a couple
more games in the tournament that would’ve been it but it more than I
could’ve imagined coming in as a freshman. We had a great ride, we accomplishment
a lot of things. I enjoyed playing with these guys.”

NDSU Junior guard Josh Vaughan----------------------
ON NEXT YEAR AND FILLING SHOES OF SENIORS
“I don’t know about next year. These guys have been here the whole time I
have been here. It’s going to be a lot different next year. I mean, these guys are
great players, great teammates and we’re going to miss them a lot.”

ON OTHERS HAVING TO STEP UP FOR NEXT YEAR
“Everyone is going to have to step up and play different roles, score a lot
more. We are going to have to figure out who is going to score for us.”

STRATEGY AGAINST KANSAS
“We knew they were a great team and we were going to have to play a really
good defensive game and offense too.We weren’t really able to contain
Collins and Aldrich tonight, you know, it happens.”
ON BISON-DOMINATED CROWD
“They were insane. There is no better feeling than coming out to the fans.
You couldn’t even hear yourself think when you came out. It was crazy. It
was great.”

NDSU Senior guardMike Nelson-----------------------
ON BATTLING ANDMAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR KANSAS
“I thought we did a pretty good job of getting on some boards and that’s what
kept us in.”
“Collins and Aldrich were the two guys that stepped up on their team and
they are tremendous players and they are extremely tough to defend.”
ON COLLINS ANDWOODSIDE BATTLING BACK AND FORTH
“It’s neat to see two high caliber players like that go at it like that head-tohead.
It was a great game and it was fun to be a part of it.”
PUTTING JOURNEY INTO PERSPECTIVE
“It’s hard. There are so many different emotions going through my head right
now. I just know that I’ll never forget running onto that court and seeing all
those Bison fans. That was something else.”
