FORT WORTH - The TCU men¹s basketball team will be joined by Arizona State, Cal State-Northridge and Texas State in the Western Bracket of the 2009 Dick¹s Sporting Good NIT Season Tip-Off, which was announced on Wednesday by NIT Selection Committee Chairman C.W. Newton.
The Frogs ­ who enter the tournament as the seventh-seed ­ will travel to Tempe, Ariz., for a showdown against Cal State-Northridge in the opening round while the host-program Arizona State will square-off against Texas State. Both games are slated for Nov. 16th at the Wells Fargo Arena.
The winner of the Frogs and Matadors, who captured the 2008-09 Big West Conference Championship, will face the winner of the Sun Devils and Bobcats in the Western Championship Game while the two losing teams will face one another in the consolation game. The winner of the Western Bracket will travel to Madison Square Garden on Nov. 25th for the ³First Four² semifinal and final doubleheaders slated for Nov. 25th and 27th.
Arizona State, Duke, LSU and UConn were all selected as the top seeds in their respective brackets while TCU, UNC Charlotte, Western Kentucky and Hofstra were all selected as the number-two seeds.
First- and second-round games will be played at the home campus of the four highest-seeded teams. The winners of those sites will move onto New York City while the remaining 12 teams will play third- and fourth-round games on the home campus sites of the three highest remaining seeds. Participating teams will not pay any team twice, and the third and fourth rounds will be assigned to the most geographically compatible site possible.
