MANKATO, Minn. --- Fifth-seeded Metro State used 25 points and 12 rebounds from junior guard Reggie Evans en route to a 78-73 victory against fourth-seeded U-Mary in the final game of the opening round of the 2011 NCAA Division II Central Region tournament.

Metro’s win marked the only lower seed to earn a victory in the tournament.

The first half was played even as the Roadrunners took a 39-38 lead into the break as they shot 60.7 percent in the first 20 minutes.

The second half featured five ties but Metro State broke each one of them in order to hold onto the victory.

Joining Evans in double-digits was senior guard A.J. Flournoy added 14 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore post Jonathan Morse contributed 12 points to the winning cause.

U-Mary was led in scoring by senior forward Eric Erdman who had 26 points. Senior guard Anthony Moody added 16 while freshman guard Jalen Jaspers and sophomore forward Alex Dorr each had ten.

Metro State finished the night shooting 50.9 percent from the floor while U-Mary hit on 45 percent of its chances.

Metro State improves to 19-9 and faces host Minnesota State tomorrow evening at 7:30 in a semifinal contest. U-Mary’s season ends with a 23-6 record.
