Adelphi wins in closing seconds
McDonald's putback sends Panthers into second round
WORCESTER, Mass. -- Third-seeded Adelphi downed sixth-seeded C.W. Post 66-65 on Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the East Regional in Laska Gymnasium.
With the win, Adelphi improves to 21-8, and advances to Sunday's semifinals at 5 p.m. at Assumption. The Panthers will face Stonehill in Sunday's regional semifinal. With the loss, C.W. Post finishes its season at 23-7.
With C.W. Post leading 65-61 with 2:16 to play, the game came down to the last minute where junior guard Chris Ranglin had a three-point play pulling the Panthers to be within one point. With three seconds left on the clock senior forward Norran McDonald scored the game winner off a rebound, making the final score 66-65.
Junior forward Bradley Simpson led Adelphi with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Ranglin also had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds
C.W. Post sophomore forward Vaughn Allen had a double-double, with a game-high 18 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman forward Tyuan Williams and junior guard Tobin Carberry each added 13 points.
