WORCESTER, Mass. -- Senior guard Ahmad Harris scored 23 points on Saturday night to lead fifth-seeded Bloomfield to a 91-83 win against fourth-seeded Massachusetts-Lowell in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday.

With the win, Bloomfield improves to 25-7 and advances to take on top-seeded Franklin Pierce on Sunday. With the loss, UMass-Lowell concludes its season at 19-11.

Bloomfield led by as many as 21 in the second half before Lowell used a 21-9 run to close to within seven points at 79-73, with 4:23 to play. Twice the River Hawks would cut the lead to six, but they could get no closer down the stretch. Bloomfield drained its final four free throws to come away with the eight-point victory.

Behind Harris for Bloomfield, senior forward Matt Wafula (19 points), sophomore guard Terry Hicks (19) and freshman guard Marvin Williams (15) also finished in double digits. Wafula led all players with nine rebounds. Harris dished out a game-best eight assists.

For Lowell, sophomore guard Akeem Williams led all players with 28 points, while senior guard Dipanjot Singh (15), senior guard Robbie Walton (11) and junior forward Matt Welch (10) all reached double digits as well. Welch led the team with six rebounds.
